Would you believe the notion of pulling gasoline out of thin air? Scientists have found an enzyme on the roots of soybeans that could be morphed into propane and could be modified to produce gasoline. This in turn could lead to cars that would be powered, in part, by their own fumes. This research is still in the very early stages, but scientists are excited at the prospects. Meantime, in Sweden, more than 11-thousand cars are being powered by methane, the gas given off during the sewage treatment process. Researchers figure these cars could run for a year on the methane generated from the waste of just 70 homes.
