It's over. The World Health Organization has declared the H1N1 pandemic has run its course, but Dr. Colin Lee, an Associate Medical Officer of Health with the Simcoe-Muskoka District Health Unit, says we can't let our gaurd down. He says while H1N1 activity has declined, health officials know that particular strain will continue to circulate over the months months, perhaps years, though not to the same degree of infection. Dr. Lee adds we won't see the kind of frenzied activity in terms of immunization as we saw going into the flu season last year. Experts are looking at what to recommend in terms of vaccinations. Four hundred people in Simcoe-Muskoka tested positive for H1N1 last winter, 17 were hospitalized, there were four deaths. Around the world, more than 18-thousand people were killed by the strain.
