Problems with the ignition interlock feature has forced Honda Canada to recall more than 40-thousand vehicles. The malfunction could allow the ignition key to be removed when the shift lever is not in Park, which could lead to the vehicle rolling. There have been several complaints but no reports of accidents or injuries. The recall affects 18-thousand Accords, 21-thousand Civics and 2-thousand Acura 1.7 ELs from the 2003 model year, as well as 3-thousand 2003/2004 Elements. Owners will be receiving a notice from Honda starting in late September advising that they contact an authorized Honda or Acura dealer to make arrangements for repairs.
