JANUARY 16th - DAILY DIRT

January 16, 2012

The Golden Globes are history for another year...and Ricky Gervais seemed pretty tame.  Big winners in the movie categories were The Artist (a near silent movie shot in black and white) which took three Golden Globes, and The Descendants which took two Golden Globes.  The lead actors of both The Artist and The Descendants won in their categories. French star Jean Dujardin took best actor (comedy-musical) for The Artist, and American superstar George Clooney took best actor (drama) for The Descendants. Michelle Williams won as best actress (comedy-musical) for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe.   As expected, the best actress (drama) award went to Meryl Streep, who plays former British prime minister Maggie Thatcher in The Iron Lady. In the best supporting categories male and female, Christopher Plummer won at the tender age of 82 for Beginners and Octavia Spencer won for The Help. For TV, Modern Family scored as best TV Comedy.

Kelsey Grammer is a big winner...he won a Golden Globe as best actor in a TV Drama series "The Boss" and announced back stage that he and his wife are expecting twins.

Gene Hackman is fine.  Reports that he was hit by a car on Friday and in grave condition were exaggerated.  He was hit from behind while riding a motor bike in Key West, but was checked over at hospital and released.

Heather Locklear is in "good spirits" after she was released from hospital in California on Friday.  While her family says she's "fine" after mixing prescription drugs and booze (again)...there are reports that they are pushing her to enter a rehab facility inside a hospital.  She is refusing.  So far.

Well looky here...Jay-Z has decided that using the word "B*tch" is inappropriate now that he has a baby daughter.  He has vowed to drop the word from his lyrics from now on.  "Before I got in the game, made a change, and got rich/I didn’t think hard about using the word b--ch/I rapped, I flipped it, I sold it, I lived it/Now with my daughter in this world I curse those that give it."  Well isn't that special.

I'd be remiss if I didn't report the latest in Sinead O'Connor's madcap life...her marriage is over - again.   She broke up with him 18 days after she married him, then they reconciled.  And now it's toast.  Again.   Sinead is blaming the alleged harsh treatment he has received from the Irish media.  Not her madness.

Tonight on TV...a 90 minute tribute to Betty White (her bday tomorrow) that features every significant female comedienne from MTM and Carol Burnette to Amy Poehler...it is followed by the debut of White's new prank show "Off Their Rockers."
