As many as three thousand police and other law enforcement and emergency personnel marched into the Hershey Centre in Mississauga this afternoon to pay respects to Peel Regional Police officer Artem 'James' Ochakovsky. The 36 year old, who made his home in Barrie with his wife and three year old son, died a week ago, twenty-four hours after his cruiser collided with another car as he responded to a non-emergency call near Pearson International Airport. Peel Regional Police Chief Mike Metcalf called Ochakovsky the ideal police officer - mature, focussed and multi-lingual; a man of conviction, committed to being a good police officer and family man.
